The Milwaukee Brewers got off to a hot start with three series wins and an 8-2 record, but were cooled-off this week by the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, losing all three games as their offense sputtered. They now head over to face an equally struggling Los Angeles Dodgers squad in the opener of a three-game weekend series Friday night. This will be the first time the teams have met since an epic seven-game series last October in which the Dodgers advanced to their second consecutive World Series with a 5-1 win in Milwaukee in Game 7. The Brewers scored 25 runs in taking two of three from the Chicago Cubs last weekend, but were outscored 20-12 in the three games versus the Angels. The Dodgers have taken a similar path the last week, pounding the Rockies with 29 runs in a three game sweep in Colorado, but were out-gunned 26-12 in losing all four in St. Louis this week, including an 11-7 setback Thursday. The Dodgers still lead the National League with 96 runs and 28 home runs, and will go up against a pitcher who has surrendered a bunch of dingers lately. Corbin Burnes is the first Milwaukee pitcher to allow three home runs in consecutive games in 19 years after a couple of rough outings to start 2019. This will mark the return of catcher Yasmani Grandal to Dodger Stadium. He hit 89 home runs while playing the last four years with the Dodgers and is 12-for-24 with three homers, four RBIs and four walks in his last seven games.
Pitchers: Brewers – Corbin Burnes (0-1, 9.90 ERA) | Dodgers – Julio Urias (0-0, 3.12)
To say Burnes is off to a rough start is an understatement. The righty pitched 30 games out of the bullpen in 2018 and allowed 11 runs in 38 innings while going 7-0, but has already matched his runs allowed total in his first two big league starts. Burnes allowed three homers to the Cardinals in his first start, but did manage to strike out 12 in five innings. Burnes made four relief appearances in the 2018 NLCS, striking out six in five innings.
Julio Urias will make his third start and his first two were a bit uneven, pitching five scoreless innings in a 4-2 loss versus San Francisco, the lasting only 3.2 innings at Colorado Sunday. Urias allowed three runs, four hits and four walks on 74 pitches, but the Dodgers supported him offensively in the 12-6 romp. Urias has appeared in 14 games at Dodger Stadium in his career, posting a 3.05 ERA in 59 innings.
This pitching matchup is one-sided here tonight with Urias always pitching better at home and Burnes struggling to keep the ball in the park this year. The Dodgers offense showed some life yesterday after getting shut down the first three games in St. Louis. I think L.A. gets an easy win here.
