Brewers @ Phillies Preview and Pick – April 22nd, 2009 ]]> include($base_url . “/includes/header.htm”); ?>
Bet this game at Bdg Opening Line: Phillies -135, 10u10 The struggling World Champion Philadelphia Phillies are starting to find their hitting groove. The Phillies knocked in 11 runs last night and have now scored at least 5 runs in 6 of their last 7 games. Their stating pitching continues to be an issue. They welcome the Milwaukee Brewers for game 2 of this 3-game series. The Brewers have now lost 9 of their last 10 against the Phillies including last year’s 3-1 series loss to Philadelphia in the NLDS. Braden Looper gets his 3rd start of the year for Milwaukee. He’s been a bright spot in the rotation with a 3.27 ERA and the Brew Crew have won both of his starts. With the Cardinals last year, Looper’s St. Louis team lost both games to the Phillies. Joe Blanton goes for the Phils and has been terrible in his two starts. He has a 9.00 ERA and if it wasn’t for the Phillies 12-11 comeback win against the Braves, Blanton would be sitting at 0-2. The Phillies would love to see the Joe Blanton who helped the Phillies win 3 Playoff games last year. That could be a long wait, because I believe he’s not the pitcher we saw last October. He beat the Brewers twice last year including Game 4 of the NLDS and even hit a HR to boot. The Brewers are among the NL leaders in HR’s while the Phillies have easily surrendered the most HR’s to go along with their horrendous 6.62 team ERA. Looper has his work cut out for him tonight against the hot hitting Phils. This one is tough to call, but I do feel confident that this will be a high scoring game and could reach over 10 by the 5th inning. Here are some other trends to consider in this game. These trends were before last night’s 11-4 Phillies win over the Brewers: Over is 4-1-1 in Brewers last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400.
