The Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs played a tight, low-scoring game on Tuesday behind two young hurlers, and tonight’s contest will feature a couple of veterans in Dallas Keuchel and Yu Darvish. The Cubs got the best of the Braves in Monday’s opener 8-3, but Atlanta bounced back on Tuesday for a 3-2 win behind a two-run homer in the seventh inning from shortstop Ozzie Albies. Atlanta got on board first with an opening-inning home run by Ronald Acuna, Jr, who is batting .320 with eight dingers and 20 RBI this month. The Braves maintained their 5.5-game lead in the NL East and have won 14 of their last 18 games and are now 23-16 away from home – tops in the National League. Chicago’s Willson Contreras instigated a benches-clearing altercation on Monday, and drove in both runs on Tuesday with a two-run double, going 3-for-7 with a homer and five RBI so far in the four-game series. Chicago, who has a one-game lead over Milwaukee in the NL Central, could use a boost at the plate from Anthony Rizzo, who is just 4-for-24 over his last eight games.
Pitchers: Braves – Dallas Keuchel (0-1, 5.40 ERA) | Cubs – Yu Darvish (2-3, 4.75)
Keuchel, who recently signed a one-year, $13 million deal with the Braves, will make his second start with the club after losing the first. The veteran lefty gave up four runs – three earned – and eight hits over five innings against Washington in his debut last week. Keuchel, who went 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA in 2018 with Houston, is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA in two career starts against the Cubs.

Darvish has been up-and-down all season and most of those downs have come at home, where he might be feeling some pressure. He’s actually set a major league record with 10 straight no-decisions coming into Tuesday’s contest after allowing four runs and four hits – two homers – in six innings against the New York Mets last week. Darvish, who is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in three career games versus Atlanta, lost to the Braves on April 4th when he allowed three runs and five hits over four innings.
I’m probably giving Darvish too many chances, especially the way he’s pitched at home, but I’m going to ride him here. Keuchel still needs a few more starts to get going, as he looked rusty in his debut last week. This could be a slugfest but the Cubs bullpen has been pitching a lot better recently and will get the job done late in the game.
