One of the easiest bets to place in any NFL game and one that will give you a result even before the game begins is the coin toss. Let’s take a look at its history and how you can bet it at Bovada Sportsbook for this year’s Super Bowl LXI.
The coin toss is a 50/50 result, so it’s no surprise that Bovada has set heads and tails at -105 each. The Super Bowl is a neutral site game where the league alternates between the AFC and NFC champions as the designated home and away teams each year. This year’s call goes to the Kansas City Chiefs as the “away team”. The Chiefs have won three of the last four Super Bowl coin tosses, including two years ago against Philly.
The Eagles have made four previous Super Bowl appearances. They won the first two coin tosses with tails, but lost both games. Philadelphia lost the coin toss with heads in 2017, but went on to win their first Super Bowl. And of course, they lost the toss with tails and lost the game against Kansas City in 2023.
Over the last decade, tails has come up six times, although it’s been heads in three of the last four years.

As you would expect, it’s been a pretty even split when it comes to coin toss results in Super Bowl history. Tails has a slight 30-28 edge since the first Super Bowl in 1967, while the longest streak for both sides is four years.
The coin toss outcome was heads every year from 1990 to 1993, which also featured the Bills losing each of those Super Bowls. Tails has had three different streaks of four years: 1998 to 2001, 2003 to 2006 and 2014-17.
