The Boston College Eagles open their season and ACC schedule with a trip to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles on Labor Day. This will also be B.C.’s first game under new head coach Bill O’Brien, who has 32 years of college and NFL experience. The former head coach of the Houston Texans and at Penn State, was also Bill Belichick’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the New England Patriots last season.

The Seminoles are already warmed-up for this game after going over to Ireland last week and losing on a walk-off field goal to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Florida State coach Mike Norvell called it a “sickening” feeling of losing that way, but DJ Uiagalelei leading a game-tying drive in the fourth quarter left reason for optimism. Boston College scored 19 unanswered points before falling just short against Florida State last season. The Seminoles came into that contest as a 27.5-point favorite and pulled out a 31-29 victory.

BOSTON COLLEGE

B.C. is coming off a 7-6 season that ended in a Fenway Bowl victory over SMU, who is now in the ACC. Thomas Castellanos became the fifth ACC quarterback since 1996 to post 2,000 passing and 1,000 rushing yards last season. He threw for 305 yards and ran for 96 more against Florida State last season. Also among the team’s 15 returning starters are Castellanos’ top target, Lewis Bond (646 yards) and tackler Kam Arnold (66 total tackles). O’Brien welcomes in 10 transfer newcomers, including receiver and kick returner in Jayden McGowan from Vanderbilt.

FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES

Uiagalelei, who previously played at Clemson and Oregon State, was 19-for-27 passing for 193 yards last week in Ireland and converted on two fourth-down plays during the final drive. Roydell Williams, who is coming off a 560-yard rushing season with Alabama, was held to 38 yards on 12 carries. Senior wide receiver Ja’khi Douglas led the way with 55 yards receiving on four catches. Defensively, the Seminoles held Georgia Tech to 146 passing yards. Shyheim Brown earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors after totaling a career-high 13 tackles against the Yellow Jackets.

PREDICTION

This line opened at -22 but was be way down to -15.5 after Florida State’s loss in Week 0. Money is coming back on Florida State and I think it’s the right call. The ‘Noles aren’t a great team and got pushed around last week, but they have far more superior talent than Boston College. Florida State is angry and I think they’ll take it out on B.C.

Pick: Florida State -17
