The red-hot Texas Rangers return home tonight to take on the American East Leading Toronto Blue Jays in the first of three huge games. The Rangers have won 9 of their last 11 games overall and are now in 2nd place in the American League West, just 3.5 games behind the Astros. Over the weekend, Texas took 3 of 4 in Detroit and held the Tigers to just 9 runs. Though they didn’t score a lot of runs themselves, they should feel good about their pitching including new acquisition Cole Hamels.
The Blue Jays are now in a tie for first in the A.L. East with the New York Yankees at 69-55. The Jays are in the middle of an 8-game road trip in which they’ve already won 4 of the first 5. They hit a mini-slump last week when they lost 3 of 5, but check out this weekend’s stats in Anaheim. They outscored the Angels 36-10! Toronto easily ranks first in runs per game at an amazing 5.4 and an OPS of .777. This team really just needs decent pitching and the offense will do the rest. Look for some more runs this week in hitter friendly Arlington.
Two lefties taking the mound tonight and the Jays love to face them and the Rangers don’t. Toronto hits .279 against them while Texas hits .245. I’ll take Mark Buehrle and the Jays to continue their winning ways.
