The Toronto Blue Jays, who owned the best offense in Baseball this season, are on the verge of getting swept out of the Playoffs by the Texas Rangers. The Rangers pounded David Price in Game 1, then outlasted the Blue Jays in 14 innings to take Game 2. The Rangers bullpen has been spectacular allowing only one run in 11 innings of work. Offensively, Delino DeShields is 5-for-11 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI, while Rougned Odor has scored five runs and is playing great defense. The Blue Jays big bats of Bautista, Tulowitzki, Donaldson, and Encarnacion are a combined 5-for-35 in the first two games. Toronto is just 40-41 on the road this year and now must win the next three games or they’re eliminated.
Marco Estrada will try to extend the series as he takes the mound with the second best ERA in the American League after the All-Star break including a best 0.91 WHIP. Estrada is prone to the long ball giving up 13 in his final 10 starts. He did allow 3 earned runs or fewer in 12 of his final 13 starts. Estrada faced the Rangers once this year allowing one run over 6 innings. Texas will counter with Martin Perez who gets the nod over veterans Colby Lewis and Derek Holland due to his consistency down the stretch. He allowed only one earned run over his last two starts spanning 13 innings. He had a 3.38 ERA over his last 11 starts of the regular season. He not only will be facing the Blue Jays for the first time, but he will also make his Postseason debut tonight.
Momentum is clearly on the Rangers side. I can’t see Toronto coming back in this series and I think it ends tonight in a slugfest.
Pick: Rangers +120
