Week 2 of the NFL season begins this Thursday with the first quick turnaround game when the Miami Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills at Hard Rock Stadium. Both teams are coming off victories in Week 1 and sit at the top of the AFC East with the surprising New England Patriots, while the New York Jets suffered the lone loss of the division. Buffalo fell behind the Arizona Cardinals, but slowly rallied and pulled out a 34-28 victory. Miami also had to comeback to take out the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-17 at home.

Buffalo won their fourth straight East title in 2023 thanks to an 18-14 upset at Miami in the regular-season finale to sweep the season series. Miami led 14-7 entering the fourth quarter, but Deonte Hardy returned a punt 96 yards early in the fourth quarter to completely change the game. Josh Allen finished with 359 yards and two touchdown passes for Buffalo, while Tua Tagovailoa had just 173 yards with a TD and two picks. That loss dropped Miami from a playoff home game to a trip to Kansas City, which it lost badly. The Bills are 9-1 SU and 5-4-1 ATS in the past 10 meetings overall.

BUFFALO BILLS

The status of Allen was in question after last week’s game when he injured his left (non-throwing). Allen says the injury is fine and that he will play, and tests on Monday proved that. He completed 18-of-23 for 232 yards and two scores while also rushing for two TDs in the win over Arizona. He joined Hall of Famer Steve Young as the only players to have multiple rushing and passing touchdowns in four career NFL games. Cornerback Taron Johnson left Sunday’s win with a forearm injury and is questionable for Thursday. Buffalo improved to 18-15 in one-score games since 2020 compared to 31-3 in all others.

MIAMI DOLPHINS

The Dolphins trailed 14-0 in the second quarter to the Jaguars before a big turnover and an 80-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to Tyreek Hill changed the game. Hill, who was handcuffed by police before the game driving to the stadium, performed a handcuff-type celebration after his TD. Both Hill and Jaylen Waddle reached 100 yards receiving. Tagovailoa threw for 336 yards and a touchdown and led Miami on an eight-play, 31-yard drive over the final 2:09 to get into field-goal range. Pass rusher Jaelan Phillips recorded a sack and three pressures, while top pass-rusher Bradley Chubb is out injured. The Dolphins are now 7-1 in September under Coach Mike McDaniel.

I really like Miami in this one. The Dolphins are 7-2 ATS in their last nine September games, as the hot weather seems to bring out the best in them. Tua was the only QB to throw for over 300 yards in Week 1 and should have another big game this week with Bills CB Taron Johnson questionable to play.

Pick: Dolphins -1.5
