The Chicago Bears will look to finish the 2024 preseason with a perfect 4-0 record when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night in the final exhibition game for both teams. Technically the Bears are only 2-0 since their Hall of Fame Game was called early for weather when they had a 21-17 lead over the Houston Texans. However, Chicago has rolled to easy victories over the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals over the last two weeks.

The Chiefs have dropped both of their preseason games, but we know these games don’t translate into what the regular season will look like. Kansas City went 11-6 a year ago and went on to win their third Super Bowl in five years. The Chiefs are +500 favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy once again, while Chicago is +4000. In two seasons as head coach of Chicago, Matt Eberflus is 7-2 both straight up and against the spread in the preseason. Kansas City’s Andy Reid is 46-49 SU and 46-45-4 ATS in his exhibition career.

CHICAGO BEARS

The Bears have looked terrific this preseason and they hope that carries over to the regular season. They dominated Buffalo 33-6 on the road and Cincinnati 27-3 at home last week. Quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, has looked great, but he won’t suit up Thursday. Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien will compete for the backup role. Bagent threw for 87 yards and two touchdowns last week, while Rypien completed three of four for 53 yards.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Kansas City already knows where they stand and there’s no need to panic about two preseason losses. There’s not much motivation left before the regular season opener on September 5th. Carson Wentz is solidified as the backup behind Patrick Mahomes and Chris Oladokun is third on the depth chart. All three played last week, but count on Wentz and Oladokun to split snaps against Chicago. Wentz completed just 5-of-10 passes for 31 yards and a touchdown last week, while Oladokun went 6-of-7 for 99 yards and a TD. Top running backs Isiah Pacheco and Cylde Edwards-Helaire are also expected to sit out on Thursday.

Chicago has looked great during the preseason and the Chiefs are just trying to stay healthy. The Bears have a nice backup quarterback competition going and that will help in a game like this. I’ll take Chicago in this one.
