The New York Yankees hope coming back home will jump-start the offense just like it did in the ALDS against the Indians as they try and dig themselves out of a 0-2 series deficit against the Houston Astros in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. The Astros earned 2-1 wins in each of the first two games, with Game 2’s victory coming on a walk-off double by Carlos Correa that scored Jose Altuve when Yankees’ catcher Gary Sanchez was unable to handle the relay throw from shortstop Didi Gregorius. Despite the 2-0 series lead, the Astros could also use more from their offense and it will need to start at the top as George Springer (0-for-7) and Josh Reddick (0-for-8) are hitless in the series from the top two spots in the batting order. Sanchez (0-for-7, five strikeouts) and Aaron Judge (1-for-7, three strikeouts) are struggling for New York, but the team has no plans to change its batting order. “I’m going to stick with the same lineup because things can turn really quickly,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters. Judge is 2-for-27 with 19 strikeouts in his last seven games.
Pitchers: Astros – Charlie Morton (0-0, 4.15 ERA) | Yankees – CC Sabathia (0-0, 3.72)
Charlie Morton was not at his best the last time he took the mound, but managed to hold the Boston Red Sox to two runs in the clinching game of the AL Division Series last Monday that Houston ended up winning 5-4. Morton allowed seven hits and walked a pair in 4.1 innings and received a no-decision. He beat New York on May 14, when he struck out 10 while allowing four runs on four hits and four walks in 5.2 innings.
CC Sabathia also worked 4.1 innings in New York’s clinching ALDS game against Cleveland and recorded nine strikeouts without walking a batter prior to his exit. He also worked 5.1 solid innings in Game 2 of that series. Sabathia is 9-5 with a 4.46 ERA in 21 career postseason appearances – 20 starts – and is facing the Astros for the first time since posting a win in Houston in July of 2016.

Both teams are struggling offensively, but the Yankees are much better at home and should be able to reach Morton. Sabathia has plenty of big game experience and I expect him to have another solid outing. Take the Yankees.
Pick: Yankees -128
