The New York Mets finally hit the win column for the first time in a while and will look to make it two straight as they continue their six-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night. The Mets snapped a seven-game skid on Friday as they finally have a healthy starter who gave them a solid start in Jacob deGrom. The Mets have been criticized recently for how they’ve handled injuries to their entire roster, and in particular the pitching staff. Zack Wheeler, who still is making his way back after missing the previous two seasons following Tommy John surgery, will try to make it two reliable starters in the rotation when he goes up against Alex Meyer. The Mets could get some rotation help soon as Steven Matz (elbow) and Seth Lugo (elbow) both began rehab assignments this week. Los Angeles had its four-game winning streak come to an end Friday and will try to get back the offense that produced a total of 28 runs in those four games. The Angels reportedly reached a deal with free-agent starting pitcher Doug Fister which would add some depth to their rotation. The Angels managed just five singles and a double off the Mets staff last night including two from Mike Trout, who raised his average to .348. Trout is the only batter hitting over .271 in the Angels lineup on Friday. Designated hitter Albert Pujols (hamstring) could return this weekend.
Pitchers: Angels – Alex Meyer (2-1, 5.59 ERA) | Mets – Zack Wheeler (2-2, 3.76)
Meyer is coming off back-to-back wins and posted his first quality start of the season when he held Detroit to one run and three hits in 6.1 innings last Sunday. Meyer has control issues at times, as he has issued a total of 14 walks in 19.1 innings this season. Meyer is 1-1 while allowing nine runs on 12 hits and eight walks in 9.1 innings on the road this year.
Wheeler has been increasing his pitch count with every outing and was solid in his last two outings, allowing a total of two runs over 12 innings against San Francisco and Arizona. Wheeler struck out six at Arizona on Monday while giving up just one run in six innings. He is just 2-3 with a 6.42 ERA in seven career interleague starts but has not faced an American League opponent since 2014.

The Mets are a streaky team and I sense a winning streak brewing. Wheeler has been solid and the Mets offense will give them just enough to pull out the victory here tonight.
