Thinking of getting into the WNBA this year? You’re not alone: even with the price of tickets going up, ticket sales are up 93% compared to last year.
This rise in popularity has also impacted WNBA betting. What used to be a niche market is now far more active and interesting to bet on. With only 12 teams, though, it’s still relatively easy to stay in the know.
Need help deciding what to bet on? Here are our top 2024 WNBA basketball picks for every single team, from favorites to underdogs!
Las Vegas Aces
As a team gunning for a three-peat, the Aces are unlikely to care too much about the regular season. They know they’ll make the playoffs, so they’ll try to protect their players for the games that matter.
Add in the Olympics compounding the schedule, and it’s easy to see the Aces using the regular season as practice. As a result, we expect them to slightly underperform when it comes to their win totals this year.
Our pick: Under 33.5 wins
New York Liberty
The Liberty’s revamped roster came into its own in the second half of last season. They went 11-4 over their final 15 games, boasting a +12.9 point differential.
This year, we expect them to do that over the entire basketball season. On top of settling into a groove, they’ll face easier foes in the East. And after losing to the Aces in last year’s Finals, they’ll care about seeding.
Our pick: Over 29.5 wins
Connecticut Sun
The Sun won 27 games last season, but this squad is now a year older. Their two best scorers (Thomas and Bonner) are 32, and Tiffany Hayes retired. They also have a new backcourt that might need time to gel.
For a veteran group like this one, the compressed schedule will be particularly difficult. We like taking the under on their win totals, particularly if you shop around a little.
Our pick: Under 25.5 wins
Seattle Storm
This off-season, Seattle added veterans Diggins-Smith and Ogwumike to an already decent core. Though their new starting five looks impressive, there’s more to professional sports than names on paper.
Like the Liberty last year, Seattle’s team will need time to figure things out. They also lack depth and play in the tough Western Conference. Add it all together, and you get a recipe for underperformance.
Our pick: Under 24.5 wins
Dallas Wings
Last year, Satou Sabally was a key part of the Wings getting 22 wins. This season, she’ll miss a large part of the season, potentially coming back after the Olympics.
The Wings still have good players, particularly in the frontcourt. Without Sabally, though, they’re sorely lacking in defense and perimeter shooting. In a competitive West, that may get them in trouble.
Our pick: Under 20.5 wins
Indiana Fever
When it comes to promoting gender equality, there’s no better symbol than Caitlin Clark. The Iowa product is already incredibly fun to watch, and her arrival to the WNBA is the biggest story of the year.
The hype behind Clark is so ubiquitous that many sports betting books are offering her futures. Given the questions behind Indiana as a team, this isn’t a terrible bet to make.
Our pick: Clark Over 130 3-Pointers
Phoenix Mercury
The Mercury are another team that tried to fill some holes in the off-season. They added several solid players, including Natasha Cloud and Kaleah Cooper. They also have a promising new coach in Nate Tibbetts.
Despite these improvements, we still think Phoenix has some ways to go. They went 9-31 last season, and their stars (Taurasi and Griner) aren’t getting any younger.
Our pick: No Playoffs
Atlanta Dream
When Atlanta’s offense is clicking, it can hang with anyone. The issue is, it’s very hard to tell when that will happen. They’re the most inconsistent team in the entire Women’s National Basketball Association.
Last season, the Dream barely made the playoffs. This year, they’ll be stronger for Crystal Dangerfield and will have an easier path in the East. That should be enough to bet on the over.
Our pick: Over 17.5 wins
Minnesota Lynx
The Lynx had a solid 2023 season. Following a horrid 0-6 start, they won 19 games on the back of great performances by Napheesa Collier. They also have a few talented youngsters ready to take the next step.
Despite this, the bookies aren’t buying the Lynx as a playoff team. This likely has less to do with them and more with the improvements made by other teams. We still think the Lynx will make waves.
Our pick: Over 16.5 wins
Los Angeles Sparks
As far as sports picks go, the Sparks are a wildcard. Depending on where you look, their win totals range from 9.5 to 11.5. It’s easy to see why: the team is very young and just added two more rookies with picks 2 and 4.
As inexperienced as the Sparks are, though, coach Curt Miller will put them in a position to succeed. At the very least, they should be good for 10 wins this season.
Our pick: Over 9.5 wins
Chicago Sky
Chicago is another young team, especially after drafting Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. But will their bully-ball play style translate to the pro level? The rest of the team is fine, but nothing special.
Most sportsbooks agree with this assessment and have the Sky missing the playoffs. The lone exception is FanDuel, which prices this possibility at -350. That’s worth making a FanDuel account for!
Our pick: No Playoffs (at FanDuel)
Washington Mystics
The Mystics are in the middle of a rebuild and aren’t ready to contend yet. Plus, their star Elena Della Donne will miss this season, and Natasha Cloud left for Phoenix. Sykes and Atkins can’t do it all alone.
Washington will still be a strong defensive team, but there’s no real go-to option. We don’t see them winning too many games this year, particularly in the early goings.
Our pick: Under 12.5 wins
