2007 Pac-10 Preview by Scott Burgess It’s time again for College Football toget underway. Here is a preview of this years’ Pac-10. The USC Trojans are once again the favoritesto finish on top and make it to the BCS Title game. USC set Pac-10records for total offense and scoring last year and are lookingto repeat this year. USC has led the conference in total defensetwice in the past four seasons. Last year USC had to replace 13starters and still made it to the final game. This year they onlyhave to replace 6 players, which make them a definite favorite. The Oregon Ducks put up the mostpoints per game last year but collapsed mid-season. If they cancut down on turnovers the Ducks are expected to be the top teamnot to make the big final this year. The California Golden Bears had a poor defensiveyear in 06 and not much is going to change this year. They’reonly bringing back two veteran players from their front sevenstarters. As for their offense they have one of the top receivingcorps in the conference. If they can improve their defense theymay be able to compete. As for the Arizona Wildcats theyhad one of the best defenses last year giving up an average ofonly 20 points, but their offense could only average a measly20 points per game. There’s not a lot of talent on the offenseagain this year so don’t expect much. The Washington Huskies are going to struggleagain this year due to QB protection and the toughest schedulein the Pac-10. With only 12 starters returning and inexperiencedplayers getting the start it’s not looking good for theHuskies. As for the Washington State Cougarstheir defense had an outstanding year finishing first in forcedfumbles and third in sacks, but unfortunately that’s allthey had going for themselves. The majority of defensive playmakershave left, leaving a huge hole in their defense. Even though theCougars had a lethal offense, without defense you aren’tgoing to get it done. The Oregon State Beavers will have a new QB thisyear without a lot of experience. 17 starters will be back thisyear along with veteran running backs and receivers which shouldhelp ease the load for a new QB. |
