The Chiefs have started this year in the best way possible. Four wins from their opening four games makes them the only undefeated team in the league at the quarter mark of the season. Head Coach Andy Reid has something special going on over at Arrowhead Stadium, and they have clearly shown that this is a squad with massive potential.

You knew something exciting was happening when they blew New England out of the park on opening day 42 points to 27. The Patriots were coming off the back of a Super Bowl victory and were left absolutely shell-shocked by the attacking football Kansas City produced straight from the kick-off. Kansas City scored three touchdowns drives of ninety yards or more. Receiver Tyreek Hill took a passing play of 75 yards and then running back Kareem Hunt hit one at 78 yards.

New England’s’ Tom Brady had all the headlines prior to kickoff but it was Chiefs’ quarterback Alex Smith that stole the show. He completed 25 of 35 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns, compared to Brady’s 16 from 36 for a total of 267 yards. Pretty impressive stuff from the 33-year old and the kind of performance that has Kansas City fans starting to dream.

Chiefs’ fans will remember the disappointment of last season after winning their division with a 12-4 record, only to succumb to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Divisional playoffs 18-16. They will definitely be hoping for more this campaign and after hammering the reigning champions, confidence will be sky high in the locker rooms.

Kansas City have never won an NFL Super Bowl since the AFL and NFL merged into one league back in 1971. As it stands now they are +110 to win their division but will have to be wary of the Denver Broncos at +150. They are +450 to win the AFC Conference with the Patriots still very much the favorites.

The real value comes in when betting on the big one, the Super Bowl. The latest odds on bet365 have them at +900 to lift the coveted trophy and break their 37-year drought. If New England slips up in the playoffs, the competition will be wide open, and the chiefs are looking hungry and ready to take full advantage of any opportunity that falls their way.

It wasn’t just the Patriots victory that impressed the spectators. The three following wins showed that this is a team that can play consistently good football week in, week out. The round two win away to the Philadelphia Eagles was a great indicator of where the squad is at mentally and physically, and showed how they can grind other teams down in those gritty games and come away with the points.

It’s well known that New England will most likely be the team to beat come playoffs time, but as they have shown the Chiefs are more than capable of causing an upset, and are going to be a fascinating team to watch this season.
