The San Antonio Spurs have responded from a Game 1 beat-down and look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead when they visit the Houston Rockets for Game 4 of their Western Conference semifinal series. LaMarcus Aldridge finally broke lose for the Spurs, who are without point guard Tony Parker for the rest of the postseason, scoring 26 points on 12-of-20 shooting. Aldridge averaged just 9.5 points on 8-of-22 shooting over the first two games of the series. Kawhi Leonard matched Aldridge with 26 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists as the Spurs rebounded from a 27-point loss at home in Game 1 to win the next two by an average of 18 points. Leonard is averaging 29.8 points with four 30-point outings in the postseason. The Spurs were playing without Parker in the postseason for the first time since 2001, ending an NBA record of 221 straight playoff appearances for him. Key reserve Patty Mills remained in a backup role and scored 15 points in 30 minutes and rookie Dejounte Murray (two points in 15 minutes) made the start and will be in the opening lineup again on Sunday.

The Rockets high-flying offense was shut down in the last two games by San Antonio’s defense. Houston averaged just 94 points in the consecutive losses and the quartet of starter Ryan Anderson (two points) and reserves Eric Gordon (nine points), Nene (one) and Lou Williams (zero) combined for 12 points on 3-of-23 shooting in Game 3. James Harden scored 43 points after scoring just 13 in Game 2, but had just five assists and spent the entire night complaining to the officials. Even with his big night, the Houston offense wasn’t clicking on all cylinders as only forward Trevor Ariza (17 points) and center Clint Capela (12 points, 16 rebounds) joined Harden in double figures. Capela is averaging 15.3 points (on 20-of-27 shooting) and 10.7 rebounds in the series. Shooting guard Eric Gordon led the bench with 9 points, but was just 3-of-10 shooting including 1-of-4 from 3-point range. “Offensively, we’ve just got to get guys involved,” Harden told reporters. “Guys just have to have confidence and knock down these shots and be aggressive.”

I fully expect Houston to come out with more passion as their backs are against the wall at home. Harden will get more help from his supporting cast and the Rockets will start making shots. Look for this series to be even after Sunday.

Pick: Rockets -5.5
