One of the surprise teams in this shortened MLB season besides the Miami Marlins are the Colorado Rockies. The Los Angeles Dodgers are supposed to run away with the National League West – and probably will – but Colorado is currently the team on top at 9-3. The Rockies just finished off a 5-2 homestand after taking three of four from the San Francisco Giants including Thursday’s 6-4 victory. They are 5th in the majors in runs scored at 5.33 and 6th in team ERA at 3.11. Colorado will begin a short three-game road trip when they visit the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Seattle’s pitching failed them again on Thursday in a 6-1 loss to the L.A. Angels and they have only two wins in the first seven games of their 10-game homestand. The Mariners will sent lefty Yusei Kikuchi to the mound opposite Colorado’s Antonio Senzatela.

Pitchers: Rockies – Antonio Senzatela (2-0, 2.45) | Mariners – Yusei Kikuchi (0-0, 4.66)

Senzatela struck out six and allowed just one run in six innings to the San Diego Padres in his last outing on Saturday. He is not a high strikeout pitcher but has nine so far through 11 innings in 2020. Senzatela is 0-2 versus the Mariners in two starts, allowing 10 runs in 11 innings of work.

Kikuchi was brilliant in his outing last Friday, limiting the Oakland A’s to three hits in six scoreless innings while striking out nine. Consistency has been a problem for Kikuchi, as he was rocked in his previous outing in Houston. The Astros tagged him for five runs in 3.2 innings and he walked four.

The Mariners pitching staff as a whole has been terrible, especially the bullpen. Colorado is on a roll now and should be able to take this matchup on Friday.
