The Indiana Pacers continue to defy the odds without their star player and look to keep that momentum going when they conclude their three-game road trip in Dallas against the Mavericks on Wednesday night. Indiana figured to drop down the East standings after Victor Oladipo went down with a season-ending injury, but the Pacers are currently in the No. 3 hole, one game ahead of Philadelphia and four behind second place Toronto. The Pacers are 1-1 on their current trip and have won eight of their last 10 overall, and will face a quickly fading Dallas team that has dropped five straight and have failed to cover the spread in each of those contests. The closest game during the five-game skid came in their last outing – a nine-point setback at the Los Angeles Clippers. Superstar Luka Doncic returned from a two-game absence to record 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, but it wasn’t enough in the loss in L.A. The Pacers rolled 111-99 in the first meeting of the season back in Indianapolis and have won six of the last nine meetings with the Mavericks.

Forward Domantas Sabonis is doing his best to make-up for the loss of Oladipo, but the former Gonzaga star left the last game against Detroit with a sprained ankle and has been ruled out for Wednesday’s contest. Sabonis scored 23 points in the Pacers’ 113-109 setback to the Pistons – tying his second-highest output of the season. Small forward Bojan Bogdanovic has also improved his production of late, topping 20 points in eight of the last 11 games after scoring 25 points against Detroit. The Pacers return home after this game to play three games against teams with losing records.

Doncic’s triple-double against the Clippers couldn’t overcome the Mavericks turnover woes, as they committed 17 overall including an uncharacteristic nine from Doncic. Dallas shot 48.7 percent from the field and made 14 three-pointers including 4-of-6 from Doncic. Forward Dwight Powell had a monster game with a career-high 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting including eight rebounds (four offensive). Tim Hardaway, Jr. reached 20 points for the third time in four games to improve his overall scoring average to 18.7. Dallas’ brief two-game homestand concludes with the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.

The home team has won and covered six of the last eight meetings.

The Pacers have been pretty good without Oladipo, but how will they fare minus Sabonis? It’s going to be hard for them to make up not only the offense, but the defense and rebounding without him. Dallas shot terrific last game, but turnovers killed them. They’ll clean that up here and get a victory against Indiana.
