The Baltimore Orioles really took a hit this weekend by getting swept by the Minnesota Twins in 4 games. On Thursday they were beat 15-2, then lost three straight one-run games over the weekend. Just a split in the series and the O’s would be tied for the Wild Card spot, but now they find themselves 2 games back of the Rangers. The O’s had won 5 of 6 prior to Thursday. Now they play seven straight road games this week with four at Kansas City tonight and 3 in Texas next weekend.
The Royals continue to dominate the American League Central holding a 12.5 game lead of the Twins and are only 3 games behind the Cardinals for the best record in the Majors. The Royals managed to split their 4-game series in Boston this weekend thanks to a dramatic rally in the 9th inning capped off by Mike Moustakas’ 2-run double. They’ve won 7 of 10 overall and show no signs of slowing down.
Kris Medlen will start for K.C. tonight and will be making his first start since October of 2013. He’s pitched 14 innings of relief so far this year and has a 2.51 ERA. Ubaldo Jimenez starts for Baltimore and he’s been pretty bad since mid July with the exception of a great outing in Anaheim on August 8th. Kansas City should be able to get the win tonight even with Medlen pitching.
