The North Carolina Tar Heels are wrapping-up a tough stretch with a home date against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Monday night. The Tar Heels will be playing their third game in five days, but ended a four-game losing streak – their first in four years – with three-straight win including beating rival Duke on Thursday and North Carolina State on Saturday. Junior forward Luke Maye led North Carolina with 33 points and 17 boards in the hard-fought 96-89 win at the Wolfpack. The Tar Heels are averaging 91.3 points during the streak and will be looking for the season sweep of Notre Dame. They got by the Irish 69-68 on January 13th with a double-double from Maye (18 points, 11 boards) for their fourth straight win in the series, but will be facing a Notre Dame team that has won two-straight contests. Notre Dame, which has been without leading scorer and rebounder Bonzie Colson (foot) for the last 11 games, lost seven straight before beating Boston College and Florida State last week at home. Irish senior guard Matt Farrell scored a career-high 28 points in the win over Florida State on Saturday. Senior forward Martinas Geben is shooting 59% from the field overall and had 14 points to go along with nine boards in the first meeting.

Notre Dame shot nearly 50 percent from the field against Florida State and drained 10 shots from three-point range. Sophomore guard T.J. Gibbs has also upped his game recently, averaging 21.3 points over the last six games to push his season mark to 16.3 – right behind team-leader Farrell (16.5). Junior guard Rex Pflueger scored a career-high 19 points in Saturday’s victory and is averaging 16 over the last two games.
