With superstar Victor Oladipo finally coming back from a long injury abscence, it appeared the Indiana Pacers were ready to make a major leap in the standings and becoming a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference. Things have not gone as expected, and the Pacers will try and pick themselves up after another setback when they host the suddenly surging Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. Indiana is in the middle of a season-long five-game losing streak after a 124-117 home loss to a shorthanded New Orleans Pelicans team on Saturday. The Pacers were outrebounded 53-37 in dropping to sixth place in the Eastern Conference, four games behind fourth place Miami. The Nets have been playing well, going 4-2 in their last six games and 5-1 ATS in their last six after a tough 119-118 loss at the red-hot Toronto Raptors. Star guard Kyrie Irving (knee) missed his third straight game and already has been ruled out for Monday. The road team has won each of the last four meetings including two wins this season by the Pacers in Brooklyn.

The Nets are sitting in seventh place in the conference, two games ahead of eighth place Orlando and have actually been favored in five of their last six games. Veteran center DeAndre Jordan recorded his first double-double in over a month with 15 points and 14 rebounds Saturday versus the Raptors. Caris LeVert led the way with a career-high 37 points including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. Spencer Dinwiddie contributed 21 points and 11 assists for a Nets team that ranks fourth in the NBA in field goal defense (44.2 percent). Brooklyn will play the Raptors again on Wednesday, this time at home.

The Pacers lately can’t seem to win with Oladipo or without him, as was the case Saturday when the former All-Star sat out for rest as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. Jeremy Lamb led five Pacers in double-figures with 26 points including 12 in the first quarter against New Orleans, but the bench was outscored 45-26. Indiana actually outshot the Pelicans from the floor by hitting 53 percent but the New Orleans recorded 16 offensive rebounds, compared to two for the Pacers. Indiana has a huge matchup at home Wednesday versus the East-leading Milwaukee Bucks.

I have to take the team that is playing better right now. The Nets haven’t played the stiffest of competition lately, but they’re winning and covering the spread. The Pacers are kind of a mess at the moment and this is too many points to lay. Take the dog.
