Nationals vs Yankees Preview & Free Pick | Prediction [6/12/18]

Washington (36-27) at NY Yankees (42-19)
When: Tuesday, June 12th 2018
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Time: 7:05 ET | TV: MASN, WPIX
Opening Odds: New York -155/9.5

The Washington Nationals and New York Yankees tried to play a couple of games in D.C. last month, but rained wiped-out most of that series and the teams will try again, this time at Yankee Stadium, on Tuesday night. New York and Washington battled to a 3-3 tie before their game on May 15th was suspended and were postponed the next night. That game will resume next Monday when both teams have a scheduled off day. Since then, both clubs have taken over first-place in their respective East Divisions, but the Yankees’ bats have gone cold, hitting just .176 as a team over the last four games. Gary Sanchez is mired in a 4-for-53 slump while teammates Greg Bird (1-for-16) and Aaron Judge (2-for-23) are also struggling. Giancarlo Stanton, who has followed-up a six-game hitting streak by striking out five times in his last two games. While the Yankees became the final major-league team to get shut out when they were blanked by Subway Series rival Mets on Sunday night (2-0), the Nationals also lost a 2-0 decision to San Francisco hours earlier to fall to 4-5 in their last nine contests. Anthony Rendon, who blasted a solo homer in the suspended game versus the Yankees last month, is 6-for-16 with five RBIs and six runs scored in his last four games. New York’s bullpen has made up for the slumping lineup by allowing only two unearned runs while striking out 25 in 19.1 innings over the past week.

Pitchers: Nationals – Tanner Roark (3-6, 3.56 ERA) | Yankees – CC Sabathia (3-1, 3.59)

Tanner Roark finally got back in the win column after allowing two runs on six hits in an 11-2 route of Tampa Bay on Wednesday – his first victory since April 30th. Roark pitched six innings against the Rays, marking the 11th time in 12 starts that he has gone that deep into a game. He will be making his first career start versus the Yankees, although he has seen Stanton (8-for-33, four home runs) plenty of times.

CC Sabathia also snapped a long winless drought in his last outing after allowing two runs on three hits in seven innings of a 7-2 victory over Toronto. The hefty lefty, who won for the first time since April 29th, was taken deep twice to raise his home run total to seven in his last five outings. Sabathia owns a 2-1 career mark against the Nationals with a 2.25 ERA and an 0.92 WHIP while limiting them to a .185 batting average.

That Nationals have been much better on the road than home this season and have won six interleague games in a row, while the Yankees have lost five of their last seven home games against teams from the other league with a winning record. The pitching matchup is pretty even in this one, but the Nationals’ bats are a little hotter. I’ll take the underdog.

Pick: Nationals +141
