The Philadelphia Phillies will look to get right after a rough road trip out West when they host the reeling Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. The Phillies went 1-5 against the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants and it ended poetically on Sunday with a walk-off home run in a 5-3 setback. Still, the Phillies are holding onto the third wild card spot in the National League, 2.5 games over the Milwaukee Brewers entering Monday’s action. More bad news is that outfielder Nick Castellanos has been placed on the injured list with a right oblique strain. The Phillies will play the Marlins and Nationals in their next nine games.

The Marlins are really bad right now and are trying to avoid their eighth consecutive loss. They are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves over the weekend and the offense has disappeared. Miami has managed to score two runs or fewer in eight straight games. They had three singles in Sunday’s 7-1 setback by Jerar Encarnacion, Joey Wendle and Miguel Rojas. The pitching staff didn’t help much with seven walks and two wild pitches. The Phillies have won six of the last seven matchups and the Under is 6-1 in that stretch.

Pitchers: Marlins – Jesus Luzardo (3-6, 3.44) | Phillies – Aaron Nola (9-11, 3.43)

Just like all Marlins pitchers, Jesus Luzardo has pitched well, but isn’t getting enough run support to post victories. the lefty is 0-1 in his last three starts despite a 2.79 ERA. Luzardo allowed three earned runs in his last start against Tampa Bay over six innings. He is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies.

Aaron Nola has been bombed in two of his last three starts, while posting a five-hit shutout in the middle game. The righty allowed a career-worst eight earned runs and equaled a career worst of 10 hits allowed in four innings at Arizona in his last start. Nola is 5-8 with a 3.28 ERA in 19 career starts against the Marlins.

It doesn’t take many runs to beat this Marlins team. They have scored three runs or less in 27 of their last 30 games. Returning home should get the Phillies back on track. I’ll lay the run and a half.
