When: Wednesday, June 12th, 2019
Where: Target Field,

Time: 8:10 ET | TV: FS North,

Opening Odds: Minnesota -230/9.5

The streaking Minnesota Twins now own the majors best winning percentage and will play a team who very well could be the worst team in the league in the Seattle Mariners. Remember the sizzling 13-2 start to the season Seattle had? Well, that is a thing of the past, as they’ve gone 15-40 since then including Tuesday’s bullpen meltdown in the series opener versus Minnesota. The Twins scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning and held on for the 6-5 victory – their 19th in the past 25 games. Marwin Gonzalez delivered the game-winning single while Jason Castro and Jonathan Schoop contributed with home runs as Minnesota opened a 10-game homestand by improving to 20-9 at Target Field. Jorge Polanco collected three hits to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, while Nelson Cruz was hitless in three at-bats in his first appearance against his former team. One of the bright spots for Seattle was that Edwin Encarnacion increased his American League-leading homer total to 21 with his 16th career dinger at Target Field – second-most among visiting players behind Kansas City’s Salvador Perez. Mallex Smith extended his hitting streak to 10 games with two hits while scoring twice for the Mariners.

Pitchers: Mariners – Opener, then Tommy Milone (1-1, 3.10 ERA) | Twins – Jose Berrios (8-2, 3.14)

The Mariners will use a yet to be determined ‘opener’ before handing the ball to Tommy Milone in the middle game of this series. Milone did the same thing in his last outing and pitched well, giving up one run and three hits over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the first place Houston Astros. He is 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA in four career appearances (two starts) against the Twins.

No ‘opener’ needed for Jose Berrios, who could be on his way to the All-Star Game with an 8-2 mark and 3.14 ERA. The former first round draft pick owns 78 strikeouts in 83 innings of work and is coming off a win over Cleveland in his last turn, giving up two runs – one earned – and two hits in six frames. Berrios, who is 1-2 with a 4.74 ERA in four starts versus Seattle, is 5-1 with a 2.72 ERA in six home outings.

I’m taking the Twins on the runline once Seattle announces their ‘opener’ and a line becomes available. Many don’t consider Minnesota a threat to win the World Series this season, but they do currently own the best mark in the league, while Seattle has been reeling for two months.
