The Philadelphia Eagles desperately need a win to stay in the tight NFC East race, but the New York Giants are also aiming to get back into the picture with a third-straight victory. The two rivals will take to the Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon in a key NFC East matchup in Week 12. Philadelphia is coming off the worst loss by a defending Super Bowl Champion when they were pounded by 41 points against the red hot New Orleans Saints. Quarterback Carson Wentz had the worst performance of his three-year career, completing 19-of-33 for 156 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions. The Giants were sitting at 1-7 heading into their bye, but have come out of it with victories over San Francisco and Tampa Bay to stay alive in the division race. First round draft pick Saquon Barkley scored three times in last week’s game including two on the ground to go along with his 142 rushing yards and had a 50-yard TD run in the first meeting versus the Eagles back on October 11th. Philadelphia is 8-1 in the last nine meetings with New York including the 34-13 win in Week 6. The Eagles have a league-worst 21 first quarter points, but 14 of them came in the October 11th meeting with the Giants.

Eli Manning was in a zone last week against the Buccaneers, completing 17-of-18 passes for 231 yard and two scores to give him five touchdown passes in the past two games after recording just eight in the first eight games. Odell Beckham Jr. has three of those scoring strikes over the last two weeks, although he was held without a score against Philadelphia in the first matchup, ending the contest with six receptions for just 44 yards. Fellow wideout Sterling Shepard, who had a strong start to the season, has been limited to 37 receiving yards of fewer in four of his last five games. Landon Collins leads all NFL safeties with 82 tackles for a defense that ranks 26th in points allowed at 26.3.

The Eagles offense was clicking back in the Week 6 matchup in New York, as Alshon Jeffery caught eight passes for 74 yards with two touchdowns and tight end Zach Ertz also found the end zone, but he was limited to season-low totals in catches (two) and receiving yards (15) against the Saints last week. The biggest concern for the Eagles is their secondary, which is a complete M.A.S.H. unit. Cornerbacks Jalen Mills (foot), Sidney Jones (hamstring), Rasul Douglas (knee) and Avonte Maddox (knee) are all questionable after missing Wednesday’s practice. Philadelphia is 27th against the pass, giving up 276.5 yard a game.

I expect a shootout here in Philadelphia, as both defenses are having all sorts of issues. The Eagles put up 34 on New York earlier this season, while the Giants offense is starting to play better and we know the Eagles secondary is a mess right now. Take the over.
