The Carolina Panthers have worked their way back into the NFC South race and will look to keep that momentum going when they host the struggling Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. Lead Carolina’s surge is their stout defense, which ranks No. 1 in the league in yards per game (274.1) and second in sacks at 29. Miami’s NFL-worst 14.5 points per game might have a tough time cracking through the likes of Luke Kuechly (team-best 65 tackles) and Julius Peppers (7.5 sacks). Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler completed a career-high 81% of his passes (34 of 42, 311 yards) in Sunday’s 27-24 loss to Oakland as Miami has dropped two straight to even their record. Carolina answered a two-game skid with two wins of their own to remain a half-game behind New Orleans in the NFC South heading into Week 10. Panthers QB Cam Newton loves the spotlight and he’s shined during the Monday night lights, throwing 11 touchdowns and rushing for two more in five Monday night appearances.

Miami traded away their best running back – Jay Ajayi to Philadelphia – but Kenyan Drake stepped-up last week against Oakland to record 104 yards from scrimmage while fellow running back Damien Williams had a touchdown reception. Wide receiver Jarvis Landry, who also scored against the Raiders, is second in the NFL with 56 catches while his 344 receptions since entering the NFL in 2014 is the most in league history by a player in his first four seasons. Fellow wideout DeVante Parker hauled in five catches and 76 yards, but has found the end zone on just one time all season. Safety Reshad Jones leads Miami with 55 tackles and two interceptions for a team that ranks 10th in total defense (315.4).

Newton has been carrying the rushing load this season and ran for another 86 yards in Carolina’s 20-17 win over Atlanta on Sunday, but the Panthers received a season-best 66 and two touchdowns from rookie Christian McCaffrey, who is supposed to be the go-to guy and relieve Newton of some pressure. McCaffrey leads the team with 54 catches out of the backfield, but Devin Funchess also has stepped up as the team’s top wide receiver since Kelvin Benjamin was traded to Buffalo. Carolina should be leaving everything on the field as they will enter their by week after this contest and play at the New York Jets on Thanksgiving weekend.

Miami is a mess right now and I don’t see them scoring more than 10-13 points in this one. Nine points is a lot to lay in an NFL game, but Carolina’s offense is starting to click and I think they come away with an easy win here.
