The Los Angeles Dodgers have built a nice cushion in the National League West standings thanks to an NL-best 19-6 home record. The Dodgers are just 12-11 away from home and will continue their eight-game road trip beginning with their first interleague game of the season – Tuesday night at the Tampa Bay Rays. L.A. will start their trip with ace Clayton Kershaw making his first ever start at Tropicana Field and hopes to extend the Dodgers 14-game regular season winning streak when he starts. The Dodgers took two of three in Cincinnati to begin the trek behind solid pitching which has surrendered 10 total runs over their last six games – winning five of them. Cody Bellinger was 5-for-11 with two homers in the weekend series to improve his major league-best batting average to .405. The Rays dropped a game behind the first place New York Yankees by not playing last night and will again go with a bullpen game on Tuesday. Tampa Bay is coming off a rough weekend in the Bronx in which they blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning to lose the opener, won the middle game in extra innings and gave up seven runs in the sixth inning to drop Sunday’s finale 13-5. Despite the poor pitching on Sunday, the Rays own the majors best ERA at 2.98. Right fielder Brandon Lowe has a hit in four straight contests including a homer in each of the last two, while Tommy Pham has hit safely in six consecutive games. The teams last met in 2016 with each winning two games that season.

Pitchers: Dodgers – Clayton Kershaw (3-0, 3.40 ERA) | Rays – Hunter Wood (1-0, 0.00)

L.A. has won all six of Kershaw’s starts this season including a 6-3 home win over San Diego last Tuesday. The lefty allowed three runs on five hits (two homers) with five strikeouts over seven innings. Kershaw has allowed 10 runs in his last three starts after giving up five total in the previous three. He won his only previous appearance against the Rays with eight innings of one earned-run ball in 2013.

The Dodgers and Rays will meet for the first time since 2016.

Hunter Wood will make his second start of the season but it will be a short one, as Jalen Beeks is scheduled to take over in either the second or third inning. Wood started a game against Baltimore on April 18th and allowed two hits and one walk over two scoreless innings. He has pitched 7.1 scoreless innings in total this season with seven strikeouts and one walk. Beeks is 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA while striking out 33 over 32 innings.

No overnight line in this one due to the uncertainty of Tampa’s first two pitchers, but either way, I’m taking Kershaw. It might be a big number, but the Dodgers just don’t lose when Kershaw starts – at least not the last 14. The Rays are hitting just .232 against lefties this season and .214 in their last 10.
