The Arizona Diamondbacks are getting back into the wild card race by winning games away from home, but will take on a team that has been pretty solid in its own ballpark – the Philadelphia Phillies. Arizona gathered some momentum with a home win over the first place Los Angeles Dodgers before heading north of the border and sweeping a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Backed by solid pitching, the Diamondbacks are just 2.5 games out of the NL’s second wild card spot with a four game winning streak and 20-16 road record. Arizona has allowed just six runs in their past four games and will send rookie Taylor Clarke to the mound to take on Jerad Eickhoff. Ketel Marte helped the D’Backs to an 8-2 win Sunday over the Blue Jays by bashing his career-high 15th homer and has has hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games, with six homers, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored in that stretch. The Phillies’ four-game winning streak was snapped Sunday in the series finale at home to the Cincinnati Reds, but still own a 22-12 record at Citizen’s Bank Park this season. Bryce Harper is slowly heating up with a five-game hitting streak and has crossed the plate four times during that span. Recently acquired outfielder Jay Bruce went 0-for-3 Sunday after going 8-for-18 with four homers, 11 RBIs and six runs scored in his previous five games. Arizona took four of the six meetings in 2018.

Pitchers: Diamondbacks – Taylor Clarke (1-2, 4.43 ERA) | Phillies – Jerad Eickhoff (3-3, 4.14)

The Diamondbacks are just 1-3 in Clarke’s four starts, but his last outing was much better than his previous one in Colorado when he didn’t even get out of the third inning of an 11-10 loss to the Rockies. In that game, Clarke allowed five runs and four hits with two walks in just two innings of work that took 55 pitches to complete. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on four hits over five innings in Tuesday’s 9-0 setback versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. This will be his first crack at the Phillies.

Arizona was 4-2 versus the Phillies in 2018.

Eickhoff surrendered four runs or more in four straight starts before allowing three on Tuesday over six innings of a 9-6 victory at San Diego. Eickhoff has given up 11 home runs in his last five outings after not allowing a single one in each of his first five starts. He is 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA in three career starts against Arizona with three homers allowed.

You have two pitchers here that are struggling and are having trouble going deep into games. Three of the last four starts for each pitcher have gone over and Eickhoff can’t seem to keep the ball in the park right now. Both offenses are capable of putting up a lot of runs, especially in this ballpark. I’ll take the over.
