Cubs vs Dodgers Preview & Free Pick | Prediction [6/16/19]

Chicago Cubs (39-31) at LA Dodgers (47-24)
When: Sunday, June 16th, 2019
Where: Dodger Stadium,
Los Angeles, CA
Time: 7:05 ET | TV: ESPN
Opening Odds: Los Angeles -215/7.5

The Chicago Cubs are having trouble scoring runs this weekend in Los Angeles and things will not get any easier on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball as they face the majors best pitcher. The Cubs dropped the first two of a four-game weekend set with the Dodgers, scoring three runs in each, but needed just two runs in rebounding Saturday for a 2-1 victory. Anthony Rizzo belted a two-run homer off L.A. closer Kenley Jansen in the ninth inning – his second dinger in two nights – to move the Cubs back into a first place tie with the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. Chicago is 27-19 in their last 46 games and will try and keep that going against lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu of the Dodgers, who is 9-1 with a minuscule 1.36 ERA. The loss by the Dodgers on Saturday was just their eighth all season at home and they received another hitless performance from leadoff hitter Joc Pederson, who is in a 0-for-26 skid. Outfielder Cody Bellinger is batting .294 with five homers and 11 RBIs in 16 career games against the Cubs. L.A. is still 9.5 games up in the National League West and will host rival San Francisco for four games beginning Monday.

Pitchers: Cubs – Jose Quintana (4-6, 3.89 ERA) | Dodgers – Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-1, 1.36)

Jose Quintana hasn’t won a game since May 5th and the Cubs are 1-6 in his last seven starts including a 10-3 setback to Colorado on Tuesday in which the veteran lefty walked a season-high four batters and allowed four runs (three earned) over 4.2 innings. Chicago won both games against the Dodgers in which Quintana started last season and he owns a 1.40 ERA in three career outings at Dodger Stadium.

What else can you say about Ryu’s season thus far except that he’s for sure the front runner for NL Cy Young. His latest masterpiece was a six-inning gem on Monday against the Angels in which he allowed one run on seven hits with six strikeouts. Ryu boasts a 77-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 13 starts covering 86 innings. He is 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA in three career starts versus the Cubs.

With the way the Cubs are hitting this weekend, how in the world are they going to get anything going against Ryu? This guy has been more than outstanding and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Quintana hasn’t been great, but his performances at Dodger Stadium have been terrific. I don’t see much scoring in this one. Take the under.
