Clippers vs Spurs Preview & Free Pick [11/29/2019]

LA Clippers (14-5) at San Antonio (6-13)
When: Friday, November 29th, 2019
Where: AT&T Center,
San Antonio, TX
Time: 8:35 ET | TV: FS Southwest
Opening Odds: Los Angeles -5/226

The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the best home teams in the league over the last several years, even going 32-9 at AT&T Center last year despite winning less than 50 games. This year has been a different story and a very rough start for Greg Popovich’s squad. San Antonio is in the middle of an awful stretch that has seen them lose 12 of their last 14 games including five in a row at home to drop to 4-6 on their homecourt. Things won’t get an easier with the red-hot Los Angeles Clippers coming to town on Friday night. The Spurs are coming off a 113-101 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday despite power forward LaMarcus Aldridge scoring 20+ points for the third straight contest while guard DeMar DeRozan’s same point streak has reached six. The Clippers seek their eighth consecutive victory on Friday after escaping Memphis with a 121-119 victory. L.A. trailed the host Grizzlies by 10 with 6:48 to play but the club finished the game with a 23-11 burst and sealed it with a Montrezl Harrell tip-in with 2.3 seconds left. Kawhi Leonard scored a season-best 38 points as the Clippers notched a 103-97 home win over the Spurs on Halloween night after splitting four games in the 2018-19 season series.

Harrell came through with more than the final two points as he picked up the scoring slack for the ‘resting’ Leonard (knee), who sat out the second of a back-to-back Wednesday. Harrell had 24 points and 10 rebounds and sixth-man extraordinaire Lou Williams registered 24 points and 13 assists in the win over the Grizzlies. Leonard will be back on Friday against his former team, whom he scorched earlier this year. Backup guard Rodney McGruder suffered a leg injury on Wednesday and shooting guard Landry Shamet (ankle) is expected to miss his 10th straight game. The Clippers will be home on Sunday to take on the Washington Wizards.

Aldridge and DeRozan were the only starters in double-figures against Minnesota on Wednesday as Derrick White, Bryn Forbes, and Jokob Poeltl went a combined 7-for-24 from the field in the loss. Forbes has been ice-cold lately, going 5-for-26 from 3-point range over the past four games. Former first round draft pick Lonnie Walker IV contributed a season-best 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting in 13 minutes off the bench after playing in just 17 regular-season games last season. San Antonio will be at Detroit on Sunday before playing their next three at home.

These teams are going in totally opposite directions and I’m sure Leonard will be extra motivated to play against his former team once again. He scored 38 versus the Spurs in a win last month. San Antonio is not only 4-6 at home this season, they’re 1-9 ATS in those contests. I’ll lay the points on the road.
