This was supposed to be one of the marquee NFC matchups this season, but both the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears have played below expectations and will meet on Sunday afternoon in a pivotal game. The Eagles come in to this contest with a little bit more momentum than the Bears after snapping a two-game skid with a 31-13 win at a tough Buffalo team last week. The win got Philly back to the .500 mark and are only a half-game behind equally struggling Dallas in the NFC East with a long way to go. Meanwhile, the Bears have lost three in a row and sit in the basement of the NFC North at 3-4 as their kicking woes continue. Cody Parkey’s double-doink misfire in the 16-15 setback to Philadelphia in last January’s wild card game led Chicago to bring in Eddy Pineiro, who saw his 41-yard field goal attempt go wide in the waning moments in Sunday’s 17-16 setback to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Bears haven’t covered a point spread since their Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings and are 2-5 ATS for the season. Philadelphia’s big win over Buffalo last weekend went a long way in making an impression on oddsmakers. The Eagles (3-5 ATS) are set as 5-point favorites and over 60 percent of bettors like them to cover the number, while the total has dipped from 44 at the open to 42 points. Chicago is 0-4 ATS in its last four meetings with Philadelphia.

The Bears kicking nightmares have been magnified, yes, but quarterback Mitchell Trubisky continues to take a lot of heat. He was 23-of-35 for 253 yards against the Chargers, but he also threw an interception, lost a fumble, and was sacked four times. As usual, the Bears will likely need a big effort from their defense to have a shot at winning games down the stretch. They limited the Chargers to only 36 rushing yards and a similar performance will go a long way in controlling the clock and field position on the road. Chicago still owns the No. 7 total defense in the league and allows only 17.4 points per game on the year. The Bears switched over the running game a little more last week, as rookie David Montgomery posted season highs in carries (27) and rushing yards (135) while also rushing for a touchdown. Chicago still ranks near the bottom of the league in rushing yards per game (26th), yards per rush (27th) and rushing touchdowns (tied for 25th). Allen Robinson leads the team with 46 catches for 526 yards and had 10 for 143 and a touchdown in the wild-card game against Philadelphia in January.

Former Bear Jordan Howard paced the ground attack in Philadelphia’s win over Buffalo with 23 carries and 96 yards and a touchdown, while the team as a whole had 43 rushing attempts for 218 yards against a normally stingy Buffalo defense. Howard is having a nice first season with Philadelphia, averaging 4.4 yards per carry with five touchdowns on 443 rushing yards. Carson Wentz was efficient last week, completing 17 of his 24 attempts for 172 yards and a touchdown and while his completion percentage has dipped from 69.9 last year to 62.1 this season, he has thrown 14 TDs compared to four interceptions. Alshon Jeffery, who had four receptions for 64 yards against the Bills, found the end zone in the wild-card game versus his former team last year. The Eagles will have their bye week after this contest and then host the New England Patriots.

This Bears offense is really bad and the defense has to be getting frustrated at this point in trying to carry the load. The Eagles scorched a pretty good defense last week in Buffalo and will carry that momentum into this contest. Chicago is just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall.
