In a possible preview of an ALDS series, the Houston Astros visit the Boston Red Sox to begin a season-closing four-game set on Thursday night in Fenway Park. Both Houston and Boston are looking to improve their positions heading into the postseason and would play each other in the first round should their standings stay the same. Houston, which has already locked up home-field advantage for the first round, took in-state rival Texas to the wood shed this week by outscoring them 37-7 during a three-game sweep. New England native George Springer hit a grand slam to highlight Wednesday’s 12-2 route for the Astros, who have won 11 of their last 13 games and reside one behind Cleveland for the top record in AL. Carlos Correa had a monster night, recording his sixth career multi-homer performance while adding two doubles to highlight a 7-for-15 series with seven RBIs. Boston, which holds a three-game lead over the second-place New York Yankees, has a magic number of two to clinch its second straight AL East title. Xander Bogaerts homered to highlight his three-hit, four-RBI effort in a 10-7 win over Toronto on Wednesday, improving to 9-for-23 with nine runs scored during his six-game hitting streak.

Pitchers: Astros – Brad Peacock (12-2, 2.98 ERA) | Red Sox – Eduardo Rodriguez (6-6, 3.91)

Brad Peacock continues to sparkle in the rotation, winning his last two trips to the mound to improve to 9-2 with a 3.21 ERA as a starter. Peacock allowed one hit in six innings in his last outing against the Chicago White Sox, earning the victory. He owns an 0-2 mark with a 12.38 ERA in three career starts versus the Red Sox and has struggled with Dustin Pedroia (3-for-6).

CHICAGO BEARS VS GREEN BAY PACKERS PREDICTION

Eduardo Rodriguez ended the month of August on a sour note, allowing five-runs in consecutive outings, but rebounded nicely in September, posting a 2-1 mark with just six runs allowed in four starts (25.1 innings). Rodriguez is coming off a win over Cincinnati on Saturday, scattering three hits over 7.2 innings.

The Astros are hitting the cover off the ball right now and Peacock has been one of their most consistent pitchers since he joined the rotation. Boston is a hot team also, so this series should be good as both teams are playing for something, but Houston is playing for more, in my opinion.

Pick: Astros -106
