Understanding Online Sports Betting

Online sports betting has grown in popularity in recent years and enjoys a loyal fan base from all corners of the world. If you happen to be an avid sports fan looking to jump on the bandwagon, we’ve got you covered. You might be in need of more information before you part with your money. Check out our top tips below to get off on the right foot when it comes to betting on your favorite sports online.

Choose your Sports

Whether you’re new to online betting or a seasoned punter, it’s a good idea to gravitate to the sports you know best. This will give you a better chance of winning as you’ll know how strong certain teams and players are and if the odds available are good. From the NBA to golf, almost every sport you can imagine has betting coverage. You can even wager on esports tournaments across a variety of video games, like League of Legends and Fortnite.

Where to Bet

The first place to start looking for trustworthy online sports betting sites is by visiting a comparison website. Nowadays, you can find several review websites which give sportsbooks a rating, to help bettors from around the world choose the best options. Comparison websites for Thai players, for example, offer the best online gambling in Thailand, with in-depth reviews of online sportsbooks available. Here you can discover which ones offer mobile betting, the best odds on sporting events and bonuses to boost your bets. When evaluating a sportsbook, don’t forget to check that the site offers odds on your favourite sports before signing up and depositing any money.

Betting odds

Before you place a bet it’s important to understand how odds work. Odds are generally represented by two numbers separated by a forward slash. This is known as a fractional odds format. For example, if a football team is given odds to win of 3/1 and you place a successful bet of €1, you’ll win €3 with your stake being returned.

The chance of winning at these odds is 1 / (3 +1) = 0.25 or 25%. Odds of 12/1 would win you €12 from a €1 bet. If the bookmakers believe a result is likely to happen, you’ll see shorter odds, such as 1/2. For a 1/2 bet – 2 / (2+1) – the chance of winning is 0.67 or 67%.

Betting on singles, combinations and multiples

If you’re feeling lucky, you can bet on several results coming in at longer odds. Of course, it’s less likely that several events will happen than just one, but if your bet wins you’ll take home a larger amount.

As well as single bets, you can wager on combos and multiples. Combination bets include several independent bets staked at once. If one of your bets doesn’t win, you can still win on your other bets. Multiples, also known as accumulators or accas, differ in that each bet included must win to claim the payout. Many punters enjoy the high risk, high reward nature of multiple bets, especially when it comes to the NBA.

Sports Betting on Mobile Devices

Sports betting on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, is becoming increasingly common. Mobile devices, by their very nature, can be used in a wide variety of places, and only require an internet connection via a mobile network or nearby Wi-Fi hub. They are also a lot easier to carry around than laptop or notebook computers.

Mobile betting has many advantages, but one of the biggest is that it allows you to place bets at any time of day or night, no matter where you may happen to be. This enables you to bet far more spontaneously than would be the case otherwise, and to open or close betting positions as and when the need arises.

Almost all mobile devices have a built-in web browser. This means you should be able to access your favourite online betting sites when you are out and about, too. In addition, many online betting sites actually provide their own apps so that you can bypass the web browser altogether. Whichever approach you use, betting on a mobile device works in much the same way as betting on any other device.
